* Exported from MasterCook * Old fashioned oatmeal cookies Recipe By : Barbara Promersberger Serving Size : 1 cookie Categories : Cookies Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 cup raisins 1 cup water 3/4 cup shortening 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 each egg 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 1/2 cups flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon clove 2 cups rolled oats 1/2 cup chopped nuts Simmer raisins and water in saucepan over low heat until raisins are plump, 20 to 30 minutes. Drain raisin liquid into measuring cup. Add enough water to make 1/2 cup. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in raisin liquid. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Stir together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, and spices and blend. Add rolled oats, nuts, and raisins. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. makes 6 to 7 dozen cookies.
